Hey,
I am honoured to have “3″ East Coast Music Award nominations this year! Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years, feels great to just be nominated.

Here is a link to my Itunes record, “Localmotive Farm” which shares the name with our actual CSA farm in Coldstream NS.
And here is a link to my Itunes record, “Wood Buffalo Youth Song Project” which was a collaboration with schools in the North.
My song “Map of You” from my Localmotive Farm album is now on the East Coast Countdown. PLEASE click here to help me out and vote!
WOW, thanks for all the support everybody, crazy and awesome!
Here is the Itunes link to Kijiji Christmas if you’d like to help support my endeavours.
Here is a link to my record, recorded in Nashville and at home which shares the name with our CSA farm (this past season, we fed 50 families for 20 weeks on 1 acre of vegetables on localmotive farm) The idea is that anything created on Localmotive Farm including vegetables, children and music is a product of Localmotive Farm.
And here is The Wood Buffalo Youth Song Project, I wrote 10 songs, in 10 days, with 10 schools as a fund-raising project for schools in Northern Alberta.
Here is a pic of my new van. It’s an 8 seater, right hand drive, ’91 Mitsubishi Delica. When I bought it(off of Kijiji), it was on a container coming from Japan. It is diesel and I’m really looking forward to converting it to also use waste vegetable oil! Thanks to Craig at www.bonsairides.com,very trustworthy site! Craig is great with me even still, months after my purchase!

Kijiji Canada called me out of the blue the other day and have expressed interest in my song, Kijiji Christmas. I am so excited about it because when I wrote the song and had Steven Bowers help me out with some lines, I remember saying: Steve, Kijiji would love this song! Who else can we write for?

To help support me and my endeavours, you can also buy the song on Itunes here.

Thanks for visiting the site. A few new things to talk about here. First I’ve got a show at MNS awards! Nov. 5th, at The Y’Arc. It’s the “Songs and Stories” songwriter circle. I’m really looking forward to this one, a chance for me to play my songs for my musical peers. I’m really excited to head down to Yarmouth again this year, I have two nominations! Musician of the year and digital artist of the year, pretty cool. I’m also doing a songwriting circle with Little River Folk on Sunday. Come say hi!
Some other great things going on, I’ll be playing drums on the newest Christina Martin album in a few weeks, and I’ve got a bunch of shows with some serious Cuban musicians. I’ll also be recording on Derek Caine’s new “live” recording and the show is already sold out!
The Wood Buffalo Youth Song Project is now available on Itunes!

Along with Steven Bowers and Thom Swift, we wrote 10 songs in 10 days, with 10 students in each of the 10 schools. We would start off by writing a song in one hour with the students. Then we would record the students singing that very song. After a one hour performance for the entire student body ending in the song we wrote, the three of us would head back to the hotel and finish off recording the tracks with more instruments and voices. Thom jokingly nicknamed the project “Daytona Songwriting 500″. At the beginning of the 10 days we had nothing. Dave Gunning had the tracks mixed and mastered 12 days after the project started. There was no debt for the record whatsoever and the municipality has already purchased 5000 copies for the students to sell like chocolate bars. At $20 a piece (at no profit to us), that will raise a total of $100,000 for school programming. www.facebook.com/youthsongproject
I’ve been in contact with schools in regards to presentations for the next school season. Here are the workshops offered this year, give me a call for pricing:

Rhythms of the World
Rhythms of the World takes students back thousands of years in time to the tribal rhythms of Africa, through the migration to the West Indies, and back to 21st Century North America and Europe. The first 30min. is spent on an interactive presentation, explaining how drums are made/played, where they originate, and how they are utilized in today’s world. This part of the presentation will be followed by a 30 min. student/teacher performance. Subjects covered include African/World History, Music, Performance, Physics/Science(sound theory), Geography, and Physical Education.
Duration: 1 hour
Max. Capacity: 200 students per session
Full day of hands-on drumming
The students will visit the instructor, one class at a time for a full day of hands-on drumming. There is an option for an interactive 1-hour performance at the end of the day where the rhythms learned in class are performed to the whole student body. Topics included: different sounds of the drum, how a drum is made, learning African rhythms, and playing in a group.
Duration: 1 full school day
Songwriting workshop
This workshop consists of Keith and another featured performer to write a song in one hour with 10 pre-selected students, then a one hour presentation is performed for the student body ending in the song written that day. Another hour is spent to record the song with the students voices. This workshop breaks down the mysterious walls of songwriting and shows the students how to write, record, and perform a song. Examples can be heard at www.facebook.com/youthsongproject
Cuban Salsa Workshop “Congris”, meaning beans and rice
This workshop consists of Keith and six Cuban musicians that are flown in from Cuba. This workshop is only offered to HRSB schools for the duration of October/November. The first hour of this workshop is spent with a select number of students, adaptable to all ages and all instruments, teaching them Cuban songs. The second hour is a one hour educational performance/presentation for the whole student body. Jorge Chicoy, who has played with Dizzie Gillespie and Buena Vista Social Club is known as the “Jewel of the South” as quoted by Fidel Castro. We are also bringing in a singer this year, Augosto Enriquez, and here is a video of him playing with Pavoratti! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klAH-gwl7Pw, These musicians are the real deal, have toured the world playing with many famous Cuban groups, and this is a great opportunity and price for your students to see these world class musicians.
